Chefs Share Cool Food Options with Students

Cool Food Meal Logo
Foods with low carbon footprints are labeled in UMD's dining halls, helping students identify and select sustainable options.

Have you noticed the green menu cards and signage on the serving lines at South and 251 Dining Halls? These “Cool Food Meals” are a form of climate labeling that Dining rolled out in the Fall 2022 semester.

Cool Food Meals are recipes and dishes that are certified by the World Resources Institute to be both healthy and have a low carbon footprint. As a signatory of the Cool Food Pledge, UMD Dining is committed to reducing food-related greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030. Throughout the month of October 2022, UMD celebrated their Cool Foods commitment through pop-up Dining Services events.

Join in the effort by choosing a Cool Food Meal — look for the green signs and the “Cool Food” badge. Try new Cool Food meals and give feedback to UMD's award-winning chefs and nutritionists.
